Quantum Exact Revenge
By Ahmad Muliady
LANGKAWI, Jan 8 (Bernama) — Defending champions Quantum Racing skippered by Ray Roberts exacted revenge on Jelik of Hong Kong on Day Two of the Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR 2008) here today.
Jelik’s skipper Frank Ponk was simply unable to match the far more experienced Australian team who finished today’s races in a total time of 2 hours 27 minutes and 53 seconds.
The Royal Malaysian Navy’s (RMN) Zuhal skippered by Lt Commander Malik Sulaiman were only able to finish in sixth place.
“Although we are in sixth position, the crew and I are still confident we will be able to finish tops when the regatta ends on Friday,” he told reporters here.
At stake is the Prime Minister’s Challenge Trophy.
Another RMN yacht, Janda Baik, had to be satisfied with seventh position.
Windspeeds of between 10 and 15 knots gave all the eight teams taking part in this category – racing – equal chance for glory.
In the International Racing Class (IRC), Phoenix skippered by Neils Degenkolw raced to the lead after clocking overall 2 hours 16 minutes and 10 seconds ahead of LunchCutter with Kieth Dunn at the helm.
Raimon Land captained by Scott Duncanson is leading in the Super Boat category with Longtze-Premier hot on their heels.
